Importing Excell data into a access 2007 personal contact manage

Hi
I am trying to import data from excell into a windows standard template.
I am a beginer with this software and I must be doing somthing wrong as when I click on import, excel select my excel folder then select append a copy of the records to the table contacts then click okay.
use the first row as colum headings (all looks fine)
tap next
then tap finished
all I get is an error message
Unable to append all the data to the table??

but if I done the same steps to a new table in the current database it works.

I would like to know what I am doing wrong and how to import data please
regards

Hi Paul

I'm going to download a copy of the personal contact manager template and have a play and I'll get back to you.

thanks

RE: importing Excell data into a access 2007 personal contact ma

Hi Paul, there's a much better way of performing this task:

1. format the excel sheet to the same format as the table in Access.

2. Go to the import office button and link to the sheet that you are trying to import.

3. Once the link is complete, you should now be able to see the excel sheet as an object within the navigation panel.

4 Create a new query, drag the newly link excel sheet into the query pane, then change the select query to an append query.

5 follow the access instructions

6. select the columns you want to update from the excel
sheet and match them to the table you want to update.

7 save the file and run the query.

voila!!!!!

Thank you I will give this a try

RE: importing Excell data into a access 2007 personal contact ma

Hi Paul

What I'd like to know is do all the fields from the Excel spreadsheet match the contacts table you are trying to import to.

Also could you send me a copy of the Excel spreadsheet that you are trying to import. My email address is newson@stl-training.co.uk

Thanks

Newson

I tried it also a friend in our I.T. department tried and neither of use could.
i have put the data in manualy this time but I would still like to know what I am doing wrong.
Thanks Paul

Paul

I think the file you originally exported to Excel something is wrong with it.

If you try to export the file again to Excel and import it back to Accessdo you get the same error

Thanks

Newson

Access tip:

Copy a Previous Record's Values to a New Record

If you often enter the same value in one field of a table, there are two methods to save re-typing the data.

1. Use Ctrl+' (apostrophe) to repeat the value input in the previous record.

2. Change the field's DefaultValue property in Design View to the most commonly used value.
