Hyperlinks

Hi,

I am trying to add hyperlinks to cells in a spreadsheet. Having done so when I send the spreadsheet to other people the hyperlinks do not open. Do I need to save the hyperlinked pages as web pages?

Thanks,
Tom

RE: Hyperlinks

Hi Tom,

Thank you for your question regarding hyperlinks

Depending on what you're hyperlinking to would define different solutions.

If I could ask what you are hyperlinking the cells in your worksheet to?

RE: Hyperlinks

Hi Thomas

Thank you for your question regarding hyperlinks.

For the hyperlink to work, if linked to another file, you would have to send both files (the excel file and the hyperlinked file) if the user you are sending to does not have access to the same file pathway from their pc.

I hope this resolves your question. If it has, please mark this question as resolved.

If you require further assistance, please reply to this post.

RE: Hyperlinks

Thanks Nafeesa,

The files I am trying to link are from a shared drive that both myself and my colleagues have access to. Even though my colleagues have access to the same file pathway the hyperlinks continue not to work.

Are there some basic security/protection settings in excel that may be causing a problem here?

Kind Regards,
Tom

RE: Hyperlinks

Hi Thomas,

Apologies for the delay.

There could be a number of probable causes as to why the hyperlink is not functioning. One common cause occurs when emailing files with hyperlinks, they are generally saved in a temp folder, this breaks any hyperlinks within the file.

If you could send your colleague a hyperlinked file and when received, if you could right click on the hyperlink to 'edit hyperlink', just to confirm the link is still there directing you to the correct file location.

Once you've done that if you can let me know what the outcome is, we can start eliminating possible causes.

Excel tip:

Change the default location for opening and saving spreadsheets

If you are always opening spreadsheets from and/or saving documents to a specific location that is not My Documents, save time by setting this folder as the default for opening files from and saving files to.

Here's how:
1. Go to Tools - Options.

2. Select the General tab.

3. Enter the pathname of the folder you wish to make the default in the Default File Location box (hint: it will be easier to use Windows Explorer to navigate to this folder, then copy and paste the pathname from the address bar at the top of the Windows Explorer screen).

4. Click OK.

You have now changed the default folder for opening and saving spreadsheets.
