what does bedmas mean?
RE: excel
Hi Igor
Thank you for your question regarding Bodmas.
Bodmas is a word used to help remember the order in which a calculation should be carried out.
B - Brackets
O - Order
D - Division
M - Multiplication
A - Addition
S - Subtraction
For example, 2 + 3 x 5 =
This could be calculated as (2+3) x 5 = 25 OR
2 + (3x5) = 17
According to BODMAS, multiplication should always be done before addition, therefore 17 is actually the correct answer.
Calculators automatically use the Bodmas rule so if you typed in 2 + 3 x 5 = it would give you the correct answer of 17
NB: O - Order is an alternative word for Power so a number raised to the power of 2 for example.
I hope this resolves your question. If it has, please mark this question as resolved.
If you require further assistance, please reply to this post.
Kind Regards,
Nafeesa
