Pivot tables

I have Microsoft Excel 2003 and on this version you don't appear to be able to draw formulas from a pivot table - i.e. when you create a pivot table you can't draw the data from the pivot table into formulas. The only way I can seem to use / manipulate the data in a pivot table is to copy the pivot table using paste "values" and working from this copy - the problem is everytime you need to update the pivot table you also need to recreate the usable version. Is there a way to use / manipluate the information in a pivot table without having to create a new version by pasting values?

I hope this makes sense!

Cheers
NICK

RE: Pivot tables

Hi Nick

Thank you for your question.

You should be able to create a formula which links a cell outside the pivot table area with a cell in the pivot table by clicking in a blank cell (outside the pivot table) then clicking on the cell in the pivot table you wish to link to. This creates a formula which updates as opposed copying and using paste values which as you point out, doesn't update when the pivot table changes.

See how you get on with this - if there's any further problems please reply to this post again.

thanks
Amanda

Excel tip:

Closing all your workbooks Quickly

Hold the SHIFT key down and using the mouse click on the file menu, it will now now CLOSE ALL rather than close. This closes all workbooks down but still leaves the application open.
