Extracting Data

I have a text field with locations and post codes in it, but in no discernable order, I'm looking for a way to extract the post code out of the cell.
Another problem with it is that some of the post codes are six digits long and others are seven.

RE: Extracting Data

Hi Darren

Thank you for your question. I just wanted to check how the data is stored. It sounds like there's one field (or column in Excel) that contains location and postcode. The postcodes can vary in length. Also the postcodes may sometimes be at the end of the text, or there may be text after the postcode.

Your goal is to separate all location info from the postcode and move it into a new column (or field).

Does that sound right - let me know if I've understood the situation you face correctly.

Kind regards,
Andrew

Excel tip:

Adding date and time

Here are two quick ways to add the date and time to your spreadsheet:

1) Type =NOW(), which displays both date and time in the same cell
or
2) Hold Ctrl and type the colon (:) into one cell for the date and the semi-colon(;)into another for the time.

Note that =NOW() updates to the current date/time whenever the spreadsheet recalculates.
