Data conversion .XLS to .CSV

I have some data within excel which contains bank sorting codes. This data needs to be converted into a csv file so that it can be downloaded into another system. The trouble I am having is when the file conversion sees any bank sorting code that resembles a date (for example 09-01-26) it converts it to a date (9 January 2026 or 9/1/2026) rather than keeping it in its original format. Can you please advise of how the format can be retained.

Thanks

Phil

Can you clarify. I assume when you are saving the file to CSV Excel is changing the bank sorting codes to a date format? To prevent this highlight the cells in question and change them to a text format by going to Format - Cells. In the Number tab select Text. YOU WILL need to Check to see if your other system accepts the sort code in this format or whether it doesn't.

RE: Data conversion .XLS to .CSV

I had already tried this, and it does not solve the problem. The way we are performing the procedure is that we are inputting the data into excel, selecting 'save as' changing the file type to 'CSV (ms-dos) (*.csv)' updating the file name and then saving. During the save process a number of dialogue boxes are shown and the end result is that the data is converted into date format.

Excel is not changing the format, the format is being changed during the save process whilst the file is being converted from excel to CSV.

Sorry Phil

I haven't heard back from you in a while. My apologies for the delay- Is this resolved?

Thanks

RE: Data conversion .XLS to .CSV

No it was not resolved.

The reply I gave on 29 June explained this, and since we could not wait any longer for your reply we have made a work-around and are processing the information differently.

Excel tip:

Manually rotating a 3D chart

To manually rotate a 3D chart;
Select the chart (edit mode) and click on one corner of the chart display area. A selection border will appear, using the left mouse button on one of the chart's "corners" (mouse pointer changes to a cross) drag the image which becomes a line representation of the chart (as you begin to drag) and rotate the chart to a view of your choice.
If you dont get it right first time, dont worry, the manoeuver is a little bit tricky.
