Chart types

In the chart for comparing latitude and jan temp we didn't seem to get it quite right for the XY scatter graph - can you explain for me?

RE: chart types

Hi Sophie

Please find the scatter chart attached you need plot only the numbers not the row labels.

Once I created the scatter chart I selected the third layout of scatter chart from the design tab in the Layouts group. This plots a line showing the correlation between temperature and latitude.

Hope that helps any questons please get back to me.

Thanks

Newson

RE: chart types

Thanks Newson - I thought that might be the answer. I still cannot find how to get the linear line on the chart though - is that on the 2003 excel? How do I find the layouts group and design tab.

Sophie

RE: chart types

Hi Sophie
In 2007 when you create a chart and click on the chart you have the Design, Layout and Format contextual tabs. Design is where you will be able to change the layout of the scatter chart by selecting the chart layout group.

In Excel 2003 it is possible to create the line

First select the series in the chart clicking on one data point will select them all

Second go to the chart menu (it will be between tools and Window and will appear when the chart is selected) and select add trendline.

The trendline dialog box will be displayed select type linear.
You should now have a line in the chart

Hope that helps

Any queries don't hesitate to get back to me.

Yours

Newson

Excel tip:

Change the Value of a Constant

When using a named constant in a worksheet, you may wish to change the value of that constant.

From the 'Insert' menu, select 'Name', then select 'Define'.

In the 'Define Name' dialog box, select the constant that you want to change.
Change the value in the 'Refers To' box.
Click OK.

Wherever that named constant has been used it will now use its new value.
