Hiding Multiple tabs and Password protecting rows

Hi I have 2 questions that i need to know. thanks for your previous response on my other question, they were very useful

1. In a spreadsheet if I want to select more thank one
un -hidden TAB how can i do that? Currently i select one tab at a time and it can be time consuming

many thanks

2.
Is it possible to password protect rows
I have some data that I need to send out to some external client. there are some formula and other important data that i want to hide from the external client without them seeing the data.
i was thinking of maybe hiding the rows and password proect those rows so i can only view them

many thanks

RE: Hiding Multiple tabs and Password protecting rows

Hi Fahim

to select more than one sheet at a time hold down the Control key whle you select the Tabs required.

If the tabs are next to each other then left click on the first tab and shift + left click on the last tab. The clicked tabs plus any between them will be hightlighted.

With regards to hiding data you may want to try hiding the rows in question them applying protection to the sheet by going to the Review Ribbon and in the changes group choosing Protect Sheet. Set a password to prevent unauthorised unprotection of the sheet.

By default the sheet is locked for editing and should also prevent the addtion or removal of columns. Do test this however. It may be possible to break the protection of a sheet using a macro or some programming. In other words applying protection may make it hard but may not guarantee the data remains hidden.

Here is a link to a fuller article on the Microsoft website regarding sheet protection in Excel 2007

RE: Hiding Multiple tabs and Password protecting rows

Hi Andrew thanks for getting back to me
i have tried selecting multiple tabs at once but it does not work and i have used the control key.
is there maybe a setting issue with the excel 2007 i use or anything that is preventing from this happening?

i havent tested the protection rows but i will and get back to you on that

RE: Hiding Multiple tabs and Password protecting rows

Hi Fahim

I just tested this and it seems to work OK in 2007. I'll take a look and see if there's a setting that might have been switched off that could be causing the problem.

In practice what you are looking to do is to hold the Control key then single click on the tabs you'd like highlighted. The selected tabs should appear slightly paler than their neighbours once they have been selected.

Kind regards,
Andrew
