Levelling resources across projects in Project
How / on what basis does Project choose to level resources across several individual projects when the resources are from a shared resource pool (and projects are individual projects, not part of a master project)?

RE: Levelling resources across projects in Project
Hi Sabine,
Thank you for your question.
The levelling process works exactly the same as if you were levelling for one project. If you use the Standard method it uses the following criteria to determine which task to delay first:
1. Predecessor relationships
2. Slack
3. Dates
4. Priority
5. Constraints
However, you can set a priority level for each project and task to determine which project and task to delay first.
The lower the priority number means the project or task will be delayed first. Then you can grade the others accordingly.
To set a priority for a project or tasks of between 0 and 1000:
Project menu - Project information and set a lower priority number to delay that project first. You can then set individual priorities for each task using the task information box.
So if you had three projects sharing one resource pool A, B and C, if you prefer to delay tasks for Project B first then set a low priority number such as 10.
Alternatively open the resource pool after sharing, choose option 3 and then level the resources.
I hope this answers your question.
Regards
Simon

MS Project tip:Typing Links Between TasksIn the Entry table, use the Precessors column to type in links. Type the previous task's ID to link. To change the link, add FS (Finish-Start), FF (Finish-Finish), and so on, and + duration to add a Lag, or - duration for a Lead time. Example: for task 5, 4FS+1w ... task 4 preceeds task 5, finish to start, with a week lag between. |
