Is there any way of sharing workbooks so that all work done on all versions is layed out together rather than over writing it?

Hi Adam - it looks like your question came in twice. For the sake of completeness here is the answer for this question too.
In Excel 2007 Workbooks can be shared. They don't show multiple versions of a sheet but will show edits. Try this: from the Review tab, in the Changes group click Share Workbook On the Edit tab select Allow changes by more than one user at the same time (you will need to save the document).
Now when anyone edits the file a review comment is added to each edited cell noting the change and who made it.
The Review tab also allows you to accept or reject such edits. It won't unfortunately show all edits side by side.
