Excel Intermediate course

Cells

we were taught how to merge cells, but i would like to know how to split cells?

RE: Cells

Dear Sumandeep

Thank you for attending Excel Advanced course!! I hope you enjoyed the course and benefited from it.

This is an interesting question and not asked by many delegates.

There is a feature called Text to column which will allow you to separate your data in cells to be spilt into different columns. For example if you have cells that have full names and you want to separate them as First name and last name in two different columns you can use this feature to do this for you.

Please follow these steps:

1. Select the cells that need to be split.

2. Choose data > Text to Columns...

3. In the Convert text to column wizard dialog box leave the option to delimited. Press Next

4. Tick the relevant delimiter that separates your data.

5. In my case of Full name I would select Space

6. Press Finish

You should get your desired result.

I hope this has answered your query.

If this has answered your query then I would request you to please mark the question as resolved!! If not and you have a specific question related to this then please post it as a new question and we should be able to provide you the solution for it!!

Kindest Regards

Excel tip:

Use the Ctrl-key for quick navigation in Excel 2010

If you want to move quickly to the right, left, top or bottom of your spreadsheet, just press Ctrl and one of the arrow keys. If you want to then select all the data in that particular row or column, hold down the Shift key and press Ctrl and an arrow key.
