Microsoft project - printing
I have planned a project and would like to show the gantt chart in its entireity, with details of the project tasks underneath.
I have looked at all the possible print previews including the 'more views' and none of them give me this option, is it possible for me to print my document this way?
If so how can it be done?
RE: Microsoft project - printing
Hi Bella
Thank you for your question
Could you clarify your problem for me. Do you want the table element of the gantt chart to appear below the graphical element? Or do you simply want the task details to appear beneath each bar?
Thanks
Stephen
RE: Microsoft project - printing
Hi Bella
Thank you for your question. You can achieve the layout you are looking for by exporting your data to a web page. It takes a couple of steps to get there. Give the following a try and see if it produces the report you are looking for.
First zoom to a level of detail that will be suitable for your report (view zoom or use the + and - icons on the top toolbar)
Then select all of your tasks by clicking on the select all square above row 1.
From the edit menu choose copy picture... and choose to export the image as a file. Note where the picture will be saved and click on OK.
Finally from the file menu choose save as web page and choose a name and location for your file then click next.
In the first instance try choosing an existing map and selecting Default task details then click next. (In future you might choose new map and select the fields you are interested in showing in your report).
From the map options screen select Include image file in html page and browse to the .gif image of your plan you exported.
Choose next to add or remove fields from your report then click Next
If you wish you can save the fields you have selected as a new map (so you can quickly load the fields for the report next time you export).
Click finish and browse to the web file you exported. When you open it you will see an image of your Gantt chart with the table of data below it.
I hope this helps - do let us know if you have any further questions.
Kind regards,
Andrew

Andrew
Thanks for attempting to solve my problem, unfortunately your response is not clear, I am either missing steps or we are working to different Microsoft project versions.
My progress started to faulter when, I had to go into the edit menu and then choose copy picture, I chose copy picture and the next dialogue box, had 3 sections:
Render image
(3 options: for screen for printer, to GIF image file)
Copy (2 options: Rows on screen and Selected rows)
Timescales
(2 options: As shown on screen and From - timescales shown as drop down menus)
(These do not tally with your instructions)
I went with Render image and proceeded to save the document however I am completely lost at the next stage, please can you offer some assistance
(apologies in the delay in responding, however this has not be resolved and it is imperative to the progression of my work).

Hi Bella
thank you for coming back to me. I've amended the notes - I hope these help:
Hi Bella
thank you for coming back to me. I think we should be able to achieve the report you are looking for:
Select all of your tasks by clicking on the select all square above row 1.
Now create your picture of the plan. Use copy picture to create a GIF file, saving it in a folder that's easy to find the in the next step. You want to include Select rows (which picks up rows that are not visible on the screen). As for the date range it depends on your zoom level. If you have zoomed to show all your plan on the screen you can choose As shown on screen otherwise put in the start and finish dates for the timescale you would like included in the image.
Now for making the report. From the file menu choose Save as and select the HTML file format. You will be prompted to follow an export wizard. Click next and choose to use an exisiting Map. Take a look through the built in maps. These control which columns will appear in your report. You might like to choose a default task map to start with.
In the options section, make sure you tick the setting to Include Image File in HTML Page and then browse to find the Gif image file you created a moment ago. OK through the mapping dialog box and save your file noting where it has been saved.
finally you will need to open the file using your web browser. You should find the picture (Gif file) with the table of data below.
It may take a couple of goes before you have have a combination that suits your requirements.
Do let us know how you get on.
Kind regards,
Andrew
