Excel count data

I have a list of post codes with counts of people in them, but I want all the individual people's post codes in one column. Some counts contain more than 500 or even 1,000 counts, so it is not easy to copy paste them in the same column. Does anyone know of an easy way of doing this?

Thanks!!

RE: Excel count data

Hello Chrisa

Thank you for your question.

How are the post codes stored currently? I'm assuming they are in a column with other data if you want to separate them out?

Kind regards
Amanda

RE: Excel count data

Hi Amanda,

The post codes are in one column and the person counts in a second column next to the post codes. What I want is all the post codes in one column, for instance if a post code had 40 counts, I want that post code 40 times in the post code column. Some post codes have 1,000 counts so it is tedious to do it manually. :)
I hope this makes sense.

Thanks,
Chrisa

RE: Excel count data

Hello Chrisa

To my knowledge, there is nothing in 'standard' Excel that would do this for you. It sounds like something that may be achievable using VBA. I will look further to see if there is maybe a function that would help, but I'm not sure that I'll find anything useful.

Kind regards
Amanda

RE: Excel count data

Dear Chrisa

I would be interested in getting a small version of this file to play around with it . Unfortunately I can't visualise this clearly in my head.

Even if it means you can make u some dummy data may be not 10000 records but about 5 to 10 records and have it the same layout as you have in your spreadsheet. Please e-mail it to me on rajeev@stl-training.co.uk and I'll definitely look at it and try to provide you with the more relevant answer.

I hope this has answered your query.

If this has answered your query then I would request you to please mark the question as resolved!! If not and you have a specific question related to this then please post it as a new question and we should be able to provide you the solution for it!!

Kindest Regards

RE: Excel count data

Hi Chrisa,

How did you get on with this one?
Have you e-mailed a copy of your workbook, or dummy example, to Rajeev?

Change the Default Width of All Columns in Excel 2010

If you want to change the width of the columns in your Excel 2010 spreadsheet, making them either larger or smaller, here's how:

In the Cells group on the Home tab, click Format.

Hover over the section called Cell Size and a drop down list will appear, select Default Width from this list.

In the Standard Width dialog box, enter the size you want to set as the default width and click OK.
