Access, input masks
If you impose input masks on a field, for example, customer identifier, to ensure correct sequence of letters and numbers. If the format for that field changes (e.g. to all numbers) is there a way to update the input mask without clashing with the old entires?
RE: Access, input masks
Dear Gail
Thank you for attending Access Intermediate course!! I hope you enjoyed the course and benefited from it.
It is not advisable to change the data type from Text to Number. However you can simply change the input mask from say >C000 to 0000 so that the new information that gets entered in the Cust ID field follows the new input masks. This should not conflict with the data that you have already entered using the old input mask. If you try to re-enter any information on the existing records that contains the old input mask you will get error as the new data that you are entering has to follow the new Input mask.
I hope this has answered your query.
If this has answered your query then I would request you to please mark the question as resolved!! If not and you have a specific question related to this then please post it as a new question and we should be able to provide you the solution for it!!
Kindest Regards
