How to determine the maximum value in a list?
RE: Excel 2003
Hello Nigel
Thank you for your question and welcome to the forum.
If you wish to determine the highest/largest/maximum value within a column in a list of data, you can do the following:
1. Turn on AutoFilter (Data - Filter - AutoFilter).
2. Using the dropdown arrow next to the column you wish to find the maximum value in, select Top 10.
3. Change settings to Top, 1 and Item; then click OK.
This will give you the row that contains the largest/maximum value.
4. Go to Data - Filter - Show All to restore the whole list.
Kind regards
Amanda

Excel tip:Quick Absolute Cell ReferencesWhen entering cell references in a formula you probably click the cell, or you may type in the cell reference. If you require any of the 4 variations, press the F4 key now before you press Enter to toggle around the relative and absolute entries ($signs). |
