Goal seek

how do i use goal seek

RE: goal seek

Hello Maria

Thank you for your question and welcome to the forum.

The reason you would use Goal Seek is to get Excel to set the result of a formula to a specific amount, by asking it to change one of the inputs into that formula.

For example, if I multiply cells A1, A2 and A3 together to get a result in cell A4, so

A4 =A1*A2*A3

I can select cell A4 and go to Goal Seek (Tools - Goal Seek) and say I want A4 (target cell) set to 500 by changing cell A1 (or it could be A2 or A3).

If Excel can find a solution for me, it will change the result of the formula in A4 to 500 by changing the value in the cell I've specified (A1).

I hope this helps.

Excel tip:

Convert a column into row quickly in Excel 2010

Occasionally you might enter data into Excel vertically and then when you finish realize that actually it would look more clearer if it was represented in a horizontal format. If you follow these simple steps below, you can quickly change the data from going vertically to horizontally and vice versa.

First, select the column you want to convert into a row or a row into a column. Then right click and select Copy. Go to the sheet where you want to past this row as a column and select “Paste Special”. Remember to check the check-box “Transpose” and select “OK”.
