When I want to copy the format from a dated cell by dragging from above why does it sometimes copy exactly and other times advance the date by one day for each cell?
RE: Excel - Copying format
Dear Carolyn
Thank you for attending Excel Intermediate course!! I hope you enjoyed the course and benefited from it.
When you use the dragging method as mentioned in your query you are normally using an alternative method to copying and pasting.
But with certain data such as dates, Name of days (Mon, Tue) or Name of Months (Jan, Feb) they have been programmed to update as they are part of the custom lists.
The only time I believe you get the same thing is when you have not entered the date in the correct format or have extra spaces before or after the entry!!
If you have to copy just the format and not the content then the best feature to use is the Format Painter. If you need help with that please let me know and I should be able to guide you through.
I hope this has answered your query.
If this has answered your query then I would request you to please mark the question as resolved!! If not and you have a specific question related to this then please post it as a new question and we should be able to provide you the solution for it!!
Kindest Regards
