Excel and access

What are the main differences between Excel and Access e.g. why do you use Excel as opposed to Access for spreadsheet data entry and visa versa?

RE: excel and access

Hi Cassie

Thank you for your question and welcome to the forum.

Excel is useful for performing calculations/working with financial information. It can also be used for storing and manipulating data, but only to a limited extent.

Access is better for storing and manipulating large amounts of data. The power of Access lies in being able to store data within a series of tables, which are linked with each other. With Access you can create queries which allow you to extract lots of different combinations of information from your data.

Excel tip:

Display Functions on Worksheets

Functions in Excel can be difficult to recall their format/syntax

For example, you want to use the =PMT function.

Enter =PMT, then select keystroke, CTRL+SHIFT+A.

This usful memory jog, will display the arguments of a function on a worksheet, allowing the user to proceed with the generation of the function
