Validation/lists

When creating lists from the validation function, and my lists are on another page, is this the same as linking formulas on worksheets?

RE: Validation/lists - 3 D Formulae

Dear Gemma

Thank you for attending Excel Intermediate course!! I hope you enjoyed the course and benefited from it.

I am not 100 % sure what your query mean but I am guessing that you are referring to the Data > Validation command in the Menu bar. When you choose List you can link the use the cells from the other cells in the same sheet by entering them in the source box.

Although it is a quick way of selecting your source data but it create a lot of problem if anybody starts to delete rows and columns or data in the sheet where the data is coming from. It is better to type the values manually in the List source in the data Validation.

Answer to your question is that you can use the source cells from the same sheet but I am not aware of using the source cell from other sheets!! The list in the data Validation is used for linking cells that normally have simple data and not formulae or functions!!

If you want to link cells that have formulae or functions then you have to create a 3-D Formula similar to the one we created during the Excel Intermediate course!!

I hope this has answered your query.

If this has answered your query then I would request you to please mark the question as resolved!! If not and you have a specific question related to this then please post it as a new question and we should be able to provide you the solution for it!!

Kindest Regards
