Excel pivot tables

what are they?

RE: excel pivot tables

Hello Alexandra

Thank you for your question and welcome to the forum.

A pivot table can be created from data that is displayed in columns in a spreadsheet, to allow any data in the column to be displayed in a table matrix.

For example, if you had a column with Region name, another with Month, another with Salesperson and a fourth with Sales, you could create from this a pivot table that shows:

Regions here
Months here Sales totals here

The pivot table can be changed around once created so you could then look at

Salesperson here
Months here Sales totals here

So you can analyse the data in different ways.

The Microsoft web site has a good tutorial (Pivot Tables 101) which you can find by searching for pivot tables on their web site.

Also we offer training on pivot tables as part of our Excel Advanced course.
