Why would you link when you can export the table over ?

RE: Linking vs. importing table

Dear Ahtaf

Thank you for attending Access Introduction Course. I hope you enjoyed the course and are finding the topics covered during the training useful.

In Excel you link workbooks together so that when you make any changes in the source file the destination file updates automatically. The principal of linking tables is the same in Access.

If you import a table to a database and start adding more records it will only update the records in the table in the existing database. But what if you wanted the data to be updated in the original database as well?

If you create a link then the data gets updated in both the tables in both the databases. Unlike Excel in Access you can amend either the destination table or the source table. The linking works both ways. But in Excel you can only amend the source file to see the changes in Destination workbook.

I hope his has helped in answering your query.

Many thanks

Kindest Regards

Access tip:

Hide Access Tables

One method of stopping your Access tables appearing in Database window, is to rename the table(s) with the prefix usys.

This converts the table into a system object, which cannot be viewed in the Database window.

You can show system objects in the Database window by the following:

Step 1: On the Tools menu, click Options.
Step 2: Click the View tab.
Under Show, select the System Objects check box.
Click OK.
