How can i put a strike through the text?

I don't want to delete the task but to show it with a strike through the font.

Thanks

RE: Font

Hi Leeora

Thank you for your question

I'm afraid that it seems that Project doesn't support the strikethrough property, and I can find no way to carry out.

I can see 2 options

It might be possible to use a font that uses strikethrough automatically. If you download the font and install it you will then be able to simply change the font type on those items where you want the strikethrough style to apply.

I suggest http://www.myfonts.com/ as a possible source, but there are many others.

Alternatively, you could use some other technique to distinguish the tasks, for example background shading, font colour etc.

If you could give me some details as to the reasons behind this requirement and what you are trying to achieve we could perhaps consider other options

Regards

Stephen

RE: Font

Thanks Steven. I need to show on my project plan that the task is being deleted but the Project Manager doesn't want it gone from the plan. He wants to see it as a strike through the fonts.

Thanks

RE: Font

Hi Leeora

Thanks again for your question

I have discussed the matter further with my colleagues and I can confirm that project doesn't support the strikethrough property.

As you clearly require some strong visual indication when a task is deleted, I would suggest creating a flag field with graphical indicators

A flag field is simply a column in your Gantt chart the content of which is "yes" or "no". In this case you would want the column header to say "deleted?" and then you could answer yes or no to each task. You could then replace "yes" or "no" with a graphic, for example a cross or a tick.

The procedure is as follows

First create your flag field

1. Click on Tools-Customise-Fields
2. In the type combo box select Flag
3. Click on Flag1 in the resulting list
4. Click the rename button and call it "Deleted"
5. Then click on the graphical indicators button
6 In the first row of the resulting table; Under "Test For Deleted" type equals, Under "Value" type true and under image select a red cross
7 In the second row repeat the above with value being "no" and the image being a tick
8 Click OK
9 Then Click OK again

You have now created a flag field

Now you need to insert into your Gantt chart

1. Right click on the head of the duration column in your Gantt chart
2. In the context menu select insert column
3. From the field list choose "Deleted" (Flag 1)

Your column is now inserted and you can mark tasks accordingly

Hope this is useful. If this is not appropriate please let me know and we can look at other options.

Stephen

Thanks for your help

MS Project tip:

Set default task type - Project 2010

a. In Project, click on the File tab
b. Select Options from left hand side
c. Click on Schedule to set the scheduling options
d. Set the Default Task type box to your chosen option
i. Generally if you plan/estimate your projects using durations you should use fixed duration, and untick the box New tasks are effort driven, if you plan/estimate with person hours use fixed work, or for plans estimated with the proportion of resources time use fixed units, and untick the box New tasks are effort driven)
e. Click OK to apply your changes
