How do I introduce user security/levels

RE: Security

Hi Jamal, thanks for the post, welcome to the forum, in reply to your question, sorry its taken so long, but I've just noticed that it hasn't been replied to:
Security User levels can be applied to your database quite quickly if you are prepared to use the Database Security Wizard, in fact this is probably the best way of setting security levels in a small to medium sized user base.
Menu command Tools>Security>User-Level Security Wizard, you can then follow the setup steps as per your requirements to set user rights, following from this you might want to attempt the User and Group Permissions and the User and Group Accounts manually, make sure that you try this out in a Copy of your database, in a separate folder to the original as a small error or ommission can cause disastrous results. I wish you luck, best regards Pete

Access tip:

Splittng a database

Split your database into two (at least).

Keep all of your code, forms, reports, etc. in one 'code' database and all of your tables in another 'data' database which is then linked to the 'code' database.

This makes modifications, updates and back-ups that much easier and allows you to work on a new version of your 'code' database without affecting existing users. It also makes it easier should you wish to convert a single user databases into a multi-user networked version.
