I'd like to show remaining work rescheduled to the status date rather than behind it. However when I check what I think are the right boxes in tools-options-calculations, the task bars don't split. Remaining work is still shown behind the status date. What should I do please?
Second question!
I have 4 milestones, 3 of which are set to 100% complete and one 0% not complete. The summary task for the 4 milestones shows 99% complete (!!!) and the progress line for the summary task zooms off to the right. Surely not right!

Hi Stephen
Let's focus in on a very simple project (one task!) to explore the possible settings.
- create a one task project
- set the task duration to 10 days
- set the status date to 5 days from now (Project > Project information > Status date)
- enable Project to shift uncompleted work to the status date (Tools > Options > Calculation). Start off by ticking
"Move start of remaining parts before status date forward to status date"
Now go back to your solitary task, double click it and on the General tab set its progress to 10%
Project should respond by marking off one day (10%) as complete the remainder should now be moved to start at whatever date you have set as the status date. Both parts of the task are linked by a split (dotted) line.
When you have finished wtih the status date go back into Project > Project Information and set the status date back to NA.
Does this get close to the outcome you were expecting?
PS if Status Date is set to NA (which it is by default) Project uses the Current Date value to work out where to move uncompleted work.

Very interesting. If I try to recreate your example
(summary task plus 4 milestones indented below it) Progress is 0% until all 4 are marked 100% when the summary task shows 100% completion too. It seems to be all or nothing rather than a cumulative calculation.
One thing that did make a difference though is if a task has been marked as milestone and progress has been recorded against it.
Double click on any regular task with a duration and on the Advanced tab tick the box (lower right corner) to mark the task as a milestone.
On the Gantt chart the task appears as a milestone with some Lag but now you can have degrees of progress that roll up to the summary task.
Does this describe the situation you are encountering? You might like to try checking each of your milestones to see if they are in fact tasks with durations that have been marked as milestones.
