Excel - Trendline

Can someone help with the explanation of trendlines - why it is used

RE: Excel - Trendline

Hi Hellena,

Thank you for your question.

If for example you have a chart showing a downward trend, and wanted to do a forecast to see where you would be at the end of the month if things continued at the historical rate, a trendline would be able to help.

The Add Trendline works if the series range is set up for a set period of time, with the remaining days in the series being blank. If your data series does not contain any blank cells for future days, then you use the Options tab of the Trendline dialog. On the Options tab, you can specify that the trendline should forecast forward any number of periods.

Past results may not be the perfect indicator of future results, but it can help you see if you are on the right track, which is one of the main uses of a trendline.

I hope this resolves your question. If it has, please mark this question as resolved.

If you require further assistance, please reply to this post.

Have a great day.

Regards,

Nicole.
