RE: excel 2003

Hi Pat, Thank you for the post, In answer to your question, if you do not have the password that the file was protected by you will not be able to undertake this and the file is effectively lost to you forever.
Before we begin; you have not mentioned if the Worksheet or the workbook is protected so initially I am going to consider the Workbook is protected, then #2 is for the Worksheet.
However if you do have the password and you just want to remove the security settings then follow these steps:
1. In the Workbook select Menu command Tools - Protection, And choose UnProtect Workbook. Provide the password and click OK. The Workbook will now be available for Changes to Structure and Windows.
2. If the Worksheet is protected, (some areas may be open to edit and others not). Go to the same menu options, but choose the option UnProtect Sheet, enter your password and then you should be able to access those cells which were previously locked;
I hope that helps, best regards Pete,

RE: excel 2003

Thanks for reply but.....

when I select tools there is no option to unprotect

I do have the password.

The protection on this worksheet is only to stop other users seeing my work...when I go into the sheet I have access to all cells.

I didn't put the protection on so have asked my colleague who did to try but she also has no option to unprotect.

Thanks
Pat

RE: excel 2003

Hi Pat, I am a little bit stumped so all I can offer is a website which provides a free Removal of Worksheet or Workbook password as a download. Both Best Training or I can take no responsibility for this as it is third party software, I would strongly suggest that you try it out on a copy of your database before applying it to the real thing, The link is http://www.mydigitallife.info/2006/02/18/remove-excel-workbook-or-worksheet-lost-password-for-free/ I hope that helps, regards Pete

RE: excel 2003

oh dear, not quite the answer I was hoping for but may give it a try. For the time being I will just use the password.

Thanks
Pat

RE: excel 2003

Hi Pat, I have just had a little thought, if you go to the File>Save As option and Choose the Tools Option drop down, in this menu you will see General Options, if is shows that a password has been applied, Black Dots in the text boxes, delete these and save the file, this will remove the open password option.
regards Pete
