The trick of putting £1 into people's costs rather than having people's daily rates or if they are salaried and therefore you don't have costs for them. This we were told is a good trick to use but didn't get a chance to see this in action
Hi Michelle
Thank you for your question. Yes setting the rate for a Work resource to either 1/d or 1/h can be very handy when you don't know the rates for the resources (or using real numbers could be politically sensitive). Using notional rates means MS Project will generate costs which will get included in your baseline.
The advantage is that when it comes to viewing variance you can measure cost increases/decreases as well as time.
If you do have the real rates in Excel you could multiply the project notional totals by the real rates to get a better indication of the costs for the project.
I hope this helps - do let me know if you have any further questions.
Kind regards,
Andrew
