Formating of cells

I would like to change the cell colour to show a clear comparison of values in columns so that the highest & lowest values stand out. How do I format a whole column so that a cell changes colour if the value is greater or smaller an values in other columns cells on a single line?

RE: formating of cells

Hello Simon,

If I understand your question correctly, then this may provide the solution.

e.g. if you have a column of values in the A column, and a column of values in the C column. If the number in the C1 is higher than that in A1 then change colour to say blue, but if its lower then change to red!

You will start by selecting the column of values you want to change appearance, in this example, column C.

From the conditional formatting button, select New Rule. From the dialog that appears select the last option, Use a Formula to determine which cells to Format. In the field that appears below, type =C1>A1 (make sure you don't have dollar signs in this otherwise it won't apply to the whole column!). Set the format you want in the box below this.

Click OK, then repeat again for the lower values, e.g. =C1<A1

I hope this resolves your question. If it has, please mark this question as resolved.

If you require further assistance, please reply to this post. Or perhaps you have another Microsoft Office question?

Have a great day.

Excel tip:

Calculate difference between two times

For presenting the result in the standard time format (hours : minutes : seconds . Use the subtraction operator (-) to find the difference between times, and the TEXT function to format the returned value to text in a specific number format.

Hours never exceed 24, minutes never exceed 60, and seconds never exceed 60.

=TEXT(B2-A2,"h")
Hours between two times (4)

=TEXT(B2-A2,"h:mm")
Hours and minutes between two times (4:55)

=TEXT(B2-A2,"h:mm:ss")
Hours and seconds between two times (4:55:00)

Where B2 and A2 must hold the end time and start time respectively formatted as a time format
