How does OLE work ?

RE: MS Project

Hi Jackie,

Object Linking and Embedding (OLE) is a mechanism that allows you embed part of one document in another document. For example in Project you can click in the Select All square (top left corner) to select all of your tasks. From the edit menu choose Copy Task then switch to another application such as Excel and from the Edit menu choose Paste > Special. The dialogue box will show that Excel has recognised the data in its clipboard as a Project object. Choosing this and clicking OK will result in an embedded version of the Gantt chart appearing in your Excel sheet. If Project is installed on the machine double clicking on the embedded chart will will open MS Project within Excel allowing you to browse and manipulate the data.

For a detailed explanation of OLE and how it works take a look at this article on the Microsoft website:

MS Project tip:

Email a Task

When you need to communicate important information to your project staff use Microsoft Project 2003 to send them a note using outlook or an e-mail system.

1.In a task sheet, select the task or tasks which you want to send a project note.

2.On the File menu, point to Send To, and then select Mail Recipient (as Schedule Note).

3.Under Address message to, select the recipients of your note.
