How to spend the last 10 minutes of your working day

Everybody knows there aren't enough hours in the day - and making the best use of available time can be a challenge. It gets frustrating when little pockets of time get wasted because you don't know how to fill them. The last ten minutes at work are a great example of this - you've not got enough time to get stuck into a full-on project, so how can you use these moments wisely?

One approach is to tie up the loose ends of the day gone by. Tidying up your desk can give you closure on the day, and help clear your mind. It's amazing how calming this can be - and it can have a positive effect on your productivity, too.

The other approach is to look ahead. Check tomorrow's schedule and make sure it's as efficient as it can be. You don't want to waste time turning up for meetings that have been postponed, or drifting in and out of the email zone because you didn't set a moment aside to deal with messages.

Our new infographic suggests the eight most effective ways you can use that last ten minutes at work. Keep it on your desktop, and you'll always know what to do when your mind has slowed to a halt but it's not quite time to go home.

Take care of all your stray minutes, and the hours should take care of themselves!
