Quick styles
Hi,
I have a quick style set for my work. This was programmed into my computer and I have been using it without trouble. I'm not sure what has happened as I have not altered any of the styles but now when I use header 2, it's numbering does not match header 1, for example:
1. Introduction
1.1 History
2. Phase 1
1.2 Results
1.3 Interpretation
i.e it no longer goes to 2.1, 3.1, 4.1 etc... along with header 1.
I have tried a few things but without joy.
Do you have any suggestions?
Thanks
RE: quick styles
Hi Aleisha
Thank you for your question. Do you use templates to create your documents? If so when you use a template does the style work but if you create a blank document do you find the style doesn't work?
Kind regards,
Andrew
RE: quick styles
I don't use templates..... maybe I should??? When I open a new word document I go to the drop down styles list and chose my company's own style.
The same problem is happening now when I go to my company's style guide and try to start a new document directly from the style guide.
Thoughts?
Thanks for your help!
RE: quick styles
Hi Aleisha
A template could help - it would mean that any document created from that template would automatically have the correct styles set.
You can try this by creating a document with the correct styles then saving as a template (click on the Office Button and click Save As, set the Save as type to Template then save and close the file).
Create a new document from the template - by clicking on the Office button then choosing New then clicking on My templates and finally double clicking on the template you created.
A fresh copy of the file is created with all the styles ready to use.
Could this make it easier to make your documents more consistent? Let me know if it helps. If not we might also need to look at how the styles themselves are created.
Kind regards,
Andrew
