Bullets and Numbering - Outlined Numbered
I am trying to customise numbered bullet points so that the text in my document (which will be protected apart from the bulleted word fields) are numbered as follows:
1.0
1.1
1.2
1.3
1.4 and so on
When I go to customise the outlined numbered bullets, I set each level number format to 1.0, 1.1 etc, with a number style set at 1,2,3 and each level to start at 1 as this is the number I want each bullet point to begin with. Restart numbering is also checked for each level. However, when I apply this to my text form fields the numbering comes out as 1.0, 2.0, 3.0 and so on, which is not what I wanted or customised it to do.
I also notice when I apply the outline numbering to a white area where there is no text, it also does the same, but if you tab to the right, the numbering then follows how I set it up, but I dont want to have to tab for any of the bullets. My intention was that the way I customised the numbering, it would come out automatically like the standard outline numbered bullets do.
Could you please help and suggest how I can do this please?
Many thanks
RE: Bullets and Numbering - Outlined Numbered
Hi Katie
Thank you for your post.
The problem here is that outline numbering is designed to give you different formats on different levels (number of indents/tabs), and what you are trying to do here is to combine numbering from two different levels (level 1 and level 2) into just one level.
In outline numbering, the first level numbers as 1, 2, 3 etc(single digits), the second level numbers as 1.1, 1.2 etc.
This is why you need to tab to get 1.1, 1.2 etc coming up.
What you will need to do is the following:
1. Go to Format - Bullets and Numbering.
2. Go to Outline Numbered tab.
3. Select the option that shows numbering 1, 1.1, 1.1.1 and click Customize
4. Select Level 2 and adjust Aligned at to 0, and both Text Position boxes to 0.63
5. Click OK, then OK again.
6. Enter your first item.
7. Press Enter then Tab to create your second item. You should find that the numbering changes from 2. to 1.1. when you press the Tab key.
I know this is slightly painful as you have to press Enter and then Tab afterwards to get the numbering you want but this is the only way you will get this to work.
